Foiled Again.

My brief stint as bus stop mama has come to an end. After two proud days of accompanying The Affectionate One (and subsequently, The Cruise Director) to the end of the driveway to wait on the bus, my position has been, um, terminated.

Last night, on the way home from church, The Affectionate One informed me that she was ready to "be at the bus stop with my brother by myself."

"Yes, Mommy. You stand at the window by the front door. That's it. Not at the driveway with us."

Oh, really?!

I was torn. I wanted to honor her demand request new sense of independence, but I really felt I should be there at the end of the driveway. At least for one more day, or two. You know.

So, I did the only thing a sane mother could do: I invented an excuse to be there. I walked right up that driveway with our Netflix dvd that needed to be returned intending to extend my stay after placing it in the mailbox.

The Affectionate One must've seen through my ruse because she cut me off at the pass. "I'll put it in, Mom. Go back to the window, please."

Sigh . . . at least she was polite about it.

  1. It's those little moments of independence that mean so much -- but I'm impressed with your quick-thinking mailbox ploy! Sorry it didn't work.
