The Cruise Director, soon to be eight years old, looked at my fingernails in horror. "Wha - what is THAT?"

"That would be fingernail polish, son." I continued laying out bread for sandwiches. I didn't think it had been that long since I hadn't sported the a naturale look.

"But, what's it for?"

"Decoration, I guess. Something different. Something pretty."

He eyeballed my hands in distaste as I opened the peanut butter jar. "Wait! You aren't going to make my lunch with those fingernails, are you?"

"Well technically I'll be using my hands, but yes, since I don't plan on removing my fingernails anytime soon, the nail polish may be part of the equation."

"Oh, man. I don't think I'm hungry."

"That's fine. More for your brother and sister."

"Oh. I guess I could eat a little something."

Just what I thought.
