A Sunny Outlook On Getting Burned

I have a bit of an issue with the sun. I love it. It doesn't love me too much. Or maybe it DOES love me too much and that is why I sunburn so easily.

When I was about eleven, I went on vacation with a friend and her family. Two hours out in the ocean with no sunscreen had me wearing a receiving blanket around my shoulders so as to not pop all the blisters I acquired on my shoulders. You know how embarrassing it is to wear a baby blanket on one's upper body? And since I was completely boy crazy, I just knew that my new look would attract all kinds of attention from the opposite gender. Too bad it was looks of disgust and pity.

I took what I could get in those days.

  1. I can relate! Well, not to the baby blanket part. ;-)

  2. Ouch! I burn easily too, but I always go out with sunscreen on if I'm going to be out for more than 30 minutes. My mom was very careful about that when I was a kid.

  3. Oh yes - I fry easily too. Doesn't help that I'm very pale with dark hair and part yeti. Did you know dark hair shows up really good on pale skin? Sigh

  4. Wearing a baby blanket would be a cruel punishment for a preteen!

Somehow I just can't picture you as boy crazy at any age but I can picture you sunburned. And you want to live at the beach? R

  6. R, I know, I know. I am a bundle of contradictions and oddities, what can I say?

Musing woman, it was cruel, but better than the alternative!

Joanna, light hair shows up really well on sunburned skin too. BG

Shelly, I am much better about the sunscreen now, but I do have days where I wanna hit my forehead and say, "Duh!"

Mamatalk, it's so good to know I am not the only one.
