(It's Friday! Are you wearing your Red today?)
It's the day before Whirling Dervish's party day. Thankfully, my mother in law is providing the party site so there is less cleaning involved for me. (Thanks Granny!) And yet the list seems to be growing even as I check things off of the list.
*make pasta salad
*draw and color pirate for "pin the eye patch on the pirate" game (check)
*make two cakes in four 9 inch rounds
*fashion those four rounds into an ocean and pirate ship
*decide whether to leave decorating the cake until tomorrow or just do it today
*fill treasure chest pinata (check)
*find big stick to whack pinata with (check)
*pick up The Affectionate One from her first big girl sleep over
*empty dishwasher (check)
*load dirty dishes that are piled up in the sink into washer
*do laundry so kids have appropriate party clothes
*remind Poppy to bring the fun stuff for kid games (parachute, balls, orange cones etc)
*cut watermelon into some kind of neat, pirate themed shape and scoop out fruit (any ideas out there?)
*cut other fruit to put into watermelon
*gather extra chairs and tables and load into mommy mobile
And I am sure there are meals to be made and bodies to be bathed and clothed, squabbles to be refereed, and entertainment to keep them occupied so I can check more items off of my list.
And while we're on the subject of lists, can I just mention that men and women have a very different style of list making and checking off?
When The Calm One and I make lists there is always a sense of competition to see who can get the most checks on their list. A little healthy competition never hurt a marriage, right? It only took me five years to catch on as to why he always completed Every. Single. Item. on his list. It's because he makes his list as he goes. Yeah, that's right. He does a chore and THEN he writes it on his list so that he can check it off. (cue collective gasps here)
Maybe it's not a man thing, maybe it's a youngest/oldest child thing. The oldest child in me would never allow such a breach of the laws of competition. And yet, I have to admit that the fact that he's making lists and checking them off at all makes me very joyful!
How about ya'll? How do YOU make lists? Are you a make-the-list-as-you-go person or do yo make your list and then do the tasks?
