Recently heard in the Jubilant household:
"Mommy, is it my birthday yet?"
"Yes, son. Today is your birthday, but Saturday is your birthday party day."
"Am I still fwee?"
"No, chickadee, you are now four years old! Isn't that great?"
"Four? You sure?"
Thoughtful pause and then, "Well, I will ask Daddy about that. But is it my party day?"
"Not 'til Saturday."
"How many days?"
Frustrated sigh and then, "I know I four, not fwee any more, but how many DAYS?!"
"Four days, honey. Four. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, then Saturday. See? Four."
"It's Wednesday? I thought my birthday was on Saturday."
Another frustrated sigh only this time from the other participant and then, "Your party is on Saturday and today is Tuesday. I didn't count today."
"I count today. Count today, Mommy."
"Okay, we'll count today. Then, that makes five."
"But you said I was FOUR!"
Sounds of head banging on kitchen counter . . .
