So, I came across this tip while reading one of my favorite magazines, Real Simple. And I had to share it. Even though I only wish I had a green thumb and have no business giving out gardening related advice, I couldn't resist passing along this tidbit of information. So, here it is.
Before working in the garden, scrape your fingernails across a bar of soap. Let the soap lodge under your nails so as to block soil, sand, and other various gardening debris. Now, soap under your nails sounds a bit icky, but it's gotta be better than muck, right? Later simply wash out the soap with a nail brush. If you're a serious gardener you were gonna do that last step anyway, right?

On a somewhat related note:
If I could only plant one thing in my garden I would choose red peppers. Or orange peppers. Heck, I'd settle for the yellow ones. I hate to pay grocery store prices for the pretty peppers, but I love to eat them. And they make for an aesthetically pleasing salad.
If you could only plant one thing in your garden, what would it be?
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
James 1:2-4

Good tip! I only have one thing planted (in a pot on our apt. balcony)---Parsley. I should have opted for basil, though.
