A Light at the End of the Proverbial Tunnel

It's a common phenomenon. I have read about it time and time again. Discussed it at length with family members and friends. Have even posted about it.

Socks that go missing in the dryer. (Cue eerie music)

Socks that were there when they were thrown in the dirty clothes hamper, that were there when the washing machine began that first cycle and yet somehow disappeared when it was time to pull the whites from the dryer and start the folding process.

Rejoice, dear reader. As the title suggests, this may not be the case forever. And again I say, rejoice! ( and . . . cue Hallelujah Chorus)

How have I come by this invaluable information? I have example after example. Sigh . . . never with my own laundry though.

Since The Calm One's deployment my parent's have graciously allowed us to stay with them. It has saved my sanity. It has also given me hope in the laundry department. While helping with my parents' laundry I have come upon the trend that there is always a mate to every sock. Every sock has a mate - every time.

I shake my head in wonder even now.

Since we've lived with them a short time (relatively speaking), I am unsure as to when this started for them. I am just as unsure how they have managed to accomplish this great feat.

Oh, I crack myself up . . .

But the fact remains, it can be done. And for that, I am joyful to know that perhaps one day I will no longer find a sock languishing in loneliness when its mate cannot be found.

I'm not holding my breath that it'll be anytime soon though. I'm just sayin'.
